7 Tips to Build Your Email Subscriber List

Email marketing is essential, but building your list is hard! Building a good list takes time and effort; we're sharing a few ideas this month to get you thinking about building your list!

  1. Social Media Channels: Consider adding weekly postings to your social media channels and ask your followers to join your mailing list. To encourage sign-ups, it's crucial to have a compelling reason. One effective strategy is to offer limited-time discounts and special promotions exclusively for email subscribers, which creates a sense of urgency and exclusivity. Additionally, consider providing value-driven content that addresses the needs of your ideal customer and offers solutions to their problems.

  2. Paid Social Media Ads: Using paid social ads is an excellent and affordable method to grow your email list. Offering a valuable lead magnet is essential to entice your ideal customer to subscribe. Social ads provide an opportunity to promote educational workshops, webinars, value-added content, and special discounts. Additionally, paid social ads expand your reach beyond your social media followers.

  3. Events: Attending events is an effective method to increase your subscriber count. When attending networking events, engage in meaningful conversations and politely inquire if adding them to your mailing list is all alright. Alternatively, if you're hosting a booth, offer giveaways or discounts, or provide valuable content in exchange for their email address.

  4. Point of Sale: If you have a brick-and-mortar business, ask if they want to join your mailing list at checkout or with your check presenters. You can offer a discount if they join for their next purchase.

  5. 3rd Party Vendors: When working with third-party vendors, ask for your customers' email addresses; some will provide you with your customer's emails, but others will not. For restaurants, services such as OpenTable and Chow Now allow you to download your customer's email addresses and include them in your database. It is worth checking with other third-party vendors to see if they offer similar options.

  6. Collaborate  One strategy to consider is collaborating with businesses that complement your own. You can ask to be featured in their newsletter and feature them in yours as well. The Chamber of Commerce usually provides this service to its members for a reasonable fee. Offering a valuable lead magnet is essential to entice their subscribers to sign up for your list.

  7. Website: Incorporate sign-up forms at various locations on your website, including the header, footer, and sidebar. Also, adding a good lead magnet to your sign-up form will help you turn website visitors into subscribers.

Building an extensive email list is more than a numbers game; it is about cultivating a space where a community of individuals finds value.
